Local employees at NHS Golden Jubilee are benefitting from amazing career opportunities, support and development all with the added bonus of a short commute.
The Golden Jubilee University National Hospital is home to the national heart and lung services providing critical care to patients from across the country, as well as the site of Scotland’s largest ophthalmology centre, one of Europe’s biggest orthopaedic centres and a major provider of diagnostic services.
NHS Golden Jubilee is also home to the 4-star Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel.
More than 400 (19%) of NHS Golden Jubilee’s employees live in the local area, benefitting from a wide range of career opportunities from healthcare to hospitality.
Employee Director, Jane Christie-Flight said: “We are proud to have such a large number of our staff coming from West Dunbartonshire.
“Everything we do at NHS Golden Jubilee is only possible thanks to every single member of our team, and it is their diverse range of experience and backgrounds which allow us to offer our world renowned standard of care for patients all across the country.
“The people of West Dunbartonshire have been vital to our growth over the years, and we are hoping to increase the number of staff from the local area as we continue to recruit for our exciting expansion programme in the months to come.”
Staff across NHS Golden Jubilee often express their appreciation for the level of training opportunities and innovative techniques provided as a reason for joining.
West Dunbartonshire Staff Nurse, Nicole Kelly became part of the team delivering the Hospital’s enhanced recovery programme in March 2022.
This programme, pioneered at the Golden Jubilee, gets patients back up and walking within hours of surgery, reducing their hospital stay and speeding up their recovery time following their operation.
Nicole said: “It is amazing to see patients back mobile on the same day as their new joint replacement, I am very proud to be part of that team and seeing the difference we make to our patients from admission to discharge.”
Nicole also benefits from a wide range of training opportunities across a number of specialities.
“The Golden Jubilee provide great training to staff and offers opportunities to further learning within the multidisciplinary teams we have.”
Nicole’s colleague, Staff Nurse Alison Major, also from West Dunbartonshire, said: “When working in the Jubilee, the training provided is exceptional.
“You’ll be able to progress through your career and enjoy the experience of working with a close team.
“The training facilities available are one of the reasons that I wanted to join the Golden Jubilee ‘family’ and I’m enjoying every minute of it!”

Serena Barnatt, Workforce Director at NHS Golden Jubilee, said: “There are so many ways to experience caring for people in the NHS.
“Whether this is part of our nursing team, caring for patients on the frontline to our engineering and estates department making sure everything works the way it should, or being the friendly face that greets someone at Reception, roles available through the expansion will be so vital for the work we do for our patients and staff.”
