Honorary Professorship for Golden Jubilee Consultant
A leading surgeon from NHS Golden Jubilee, has been appointed an Honorary Professor at the University of Strathclyde.
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Chris Gee’s appointment recognises his outstanding contributions to the field of orthopaedics, medical education, and collaborative research.
Renowned for his pioneering work in orthopaedic surgery, particularly in developing meniscal transplantation and outpatient needle arthroscopy in Scotland, Professor Gee will work closely with the University to drive forward research initiatives focused on orthopaedic science, surgical innovation, and clinical education.
Professor Gee, who is also Associate Medical Director for National Elective Services at NHS Golden Jubilee, said: “Being awarded this Honorary Professorship is a great privilege and I am delighted to receive it.
“The collaboration between NHS Golden Jubilee and the University of Strathclyde is already producing exceptional research and innovation in orthopaedics.
“I look forward to further strengthening these ties while continuing to expand our joint research efforts, including collaborations in regenerative medicine, data driven decision making and new treatments for orthopaedic conditions, improving patient care across Scotland.”

“His appointment as Honorary Professor is a well-deserved recognition for his on-going commitment to this collaboration and comes at a very appropriate time in view of the recent five-year renewal of this important strategic partnership.”
His appointment strengthens the strategic partnership between NHS Golden Jubilee and the University of Strathclyde.
Sharing a commitment to world class research, innovation and improving patient care, NHS Golden Jubilee was first awarded University status in 2022.
This partnership was recently renewed for a further 5 years, continuing to focus on developing sustainable, innovative and practical solutions to health and social care challenges.
Dr Phil Riches, Reader in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, said: “The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde has a long history of research collaboration with the Department of Orthopaedics at the Golden Jubilee University National Hospital.
“The appointment of Mr Gee as an honorary Professor in our Department further cements this relationship and deepens the strategic alliance between the institutions.
“Whilst I shall continue to collaborate with Professor Gee on meniscal replacement materials, I’m excited about widening his activity within our department so that more staff and students can benefit from his experience and expertise.”
Professor Gee is also the Associate Medical Director for National Elective Services within the Golden Jubilee currently plays an essential role in national medical education as the Education Lead for the West of Scotland Deanery Trauma and Orthopaedics Rotation.
He is also Secretary of the Scottish Committee for Orthopaedics and Trauma (SCOT) and chairs the SCOTTISH NTC research collaborative, which focuses on supporting nationally relevant orthopaedic research.
