Golden Jubilee Surgical Centre
NHS Golden Jubilee's state-of-the-art Surgical Centre will significantly increase our capacity to provide general and orthopaedic surgery, along with vital diagnostic procedures, endoscopy and clinical training.
This will make us one of the largest orthopaedic planned care centre in Europe, and ensuring we are equipped to handle the ever changing needs of NHS Scotland.
New features
Designed with extensive collaboration and input from patients, staff and third sector colleagues, the site has significantly streamlined patient pathways for an improved experience.
A purpose built and bespoke healthcare setting, the site required 12.8 kilometres of data cabling installed, 1,800 lights throughout the centre and 26.5 miles of steel wire armoured and fire proof power cables.
This is all to support some incredible new features, including:
- 5 state-of-the-art orthopaedic theatres, designed to accommodate robotic surgery, offering the highest care possible to more patients than ever before.
- Laminar flow ventilation, large windows and natural daylight for improved staff experience to support improved patient care.
- 38 new individual patient pods.
- 14 individual endoscopy patient pods with their own toilet
- 5 endoscopy procedure rooms, 2 of which are equipped with specialist equipment to allow training to support the NHS Scotland Academy.
Improved patient experience
Our new centre will offer longer operating hours, from 7am-9.30pm, so support improved patient recovery and increase the number of same day discharges.
The site will also have our Enhanced Recovery Programme built into its day to day practices. This allows us to get
patients up and mobile on the day of surgery, reducing the risk of complications and speeding up recovery time.
The future is now
Our Centre is now operational, supporting patients from across Scotland. This will gradually increase throughout 2025 and beyond.
NHS Golden Jubilee is expected to perform just under 6,200 orthopaedic and over 10,200 endoscopy procedures in 2025/2026.
In the space of 2 years 2023/2024-2025/2026, orthopaedic and endoscopy procedures at NHS Golden Jubilee will both increase by 20%.
