Meet our Cardiothoracic and Anaesthetic Research Team 

 Elizabeth Boyd

Senior Cardiothoracic and Anaesthetic Research Nurse 

Elizabeth obtained her BA in Nursing Studies at Glasgow Caledonian University. She started her career in Glasgow Western Infirmary, working in Cardiac Theatres, Acute Medical Receiving, and 15 years in Coronary Care. She moved to the Golden Jubilee in 2009 to take up her new career in Research, spending six and a half years as Research Nurse in Interventional Cardiology. Elizabeth has been the Senior Research Nurse for the Cardiothoracic and Anaesthetics since 2015. 

 

 Julie Buckley

Cardiothoracic and Anaesthetic Research Nurse 

Julie gained her Bachelor of Nursing Degree at Glasgow Caledonian University. She further developed her clinical practice working in a variety of nursing posts in both private and NHS hospitals. In 2008, she came to work as a Critical Care Nurse at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital, specialising in Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery. She then moved to Miami to provide medical care for passengers and crew on board an international cruise line. Julie returned to the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in 2014, becoming a Research Nurse in Cardiothoracic Surgery and Anaesthetics.

 

 Elaine Matthews

Cardiothoracic and Anaesthetic Research Nurse 

Elaine started her post registration career in Intensive Care and High Dependency in The Institute of Neurological Sciences, Glasgow and Addenbrooke’s Hospital Cambridge. Elaine then moved to the Renal Unit in the Western Infirmary, looking after patients on dialysis. After a career break, she returned to nursing in a part-time research post in the Renal Unit, working on some of the first trials of immunosuppressant agents and statins in renal transplant patients. Latterly, she has worked in Gastrointestinal and Infectious Diseases research at Gartnavel, working on trials of the new anti-viral drugs. She was also part of the clinical team at the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals Research Unit (NMAHP) at Glasgow Caledonian University. Elaine joined the team at the Golden Jubilee in 2017.

 

 Angela McGlade

Healthcare Support Worker 

Angela began her nursing career in South Africa in 1981, attending Alexander Bell College. During a break from nursing, Angela went into the food industry. The experience Angela acquired enabled her to restart nursing when she returned to Scotland, initially working at a care home. She then joined NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde as a Health Care Support Worker in the Outpatients Department, in Gartnavel General, for over four years. She has been the Golden Jubilee Research Team’s Health Care Support Worker since October 2015.
