International recognition for the Golden Jubilee
The Interventional Cardiology Team from the Golden Jubilee National Hospital, have been invited to perform a live procedure from their state of the art facility in Clydebank to be broadcast at the world renowned EuroPCR Conference in Paris on Friday 22 May.
The Golden Jubilee, one of the biggest heart and lung centres in Europe, has been invited to take part in the live broadcast at the world’s biggest Interventional Cardiology Event, with between up to 15,000 delegates expected to attend.
Discussing the event, Consultant Cardiologist at the Golden Jubilee, Dr Hany Eteiba said: “This is the first time our team have been asked to participate in the live demonstration, which will be streamed directly from our Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories (Cath Labs) to the main arena of the event in Paris.
“EuroPCR has been running for more than 20 years and is established as one of the most prestigious events in the medical calendar. To be asked to participate in the live demonstration, traditionally one of the main attractions of the event, is an explicit endorsement that our team and the Golden Jubilee are world-leaders in interventional cardiology and it is an honour to be a part of it.”
Jill Young, Chief Executive of the Golden Jubilee National Hospital, also commented on the event, saying: “As part of our Board vision of leading quality, research and innovation on behalf of the NHS in Scotland, over the past several years we have continuously worked to find new and pioneering ways to provide the highest possible standard of care and get our patients back to living healthy, active lifestyles as soon as possible.
“Our team carry out complex and often critical procedures on a daily basis, and it is fantastic to see their hard work pay off by being invited to perform the live demonstration at EuroPCR. This is an amazing opportunity to not only highlight the work of our cardiology services, but to showcase our standing as an international leader in pioneering and innovative new treatments, research and methodologies on behalf of NHSScotland.”
The Golden Jubilee continues to provide the fastest “Door to Balloon” time in the UK for Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PPCI) for heart attack patients, dramatically improving chances of survival and reducing the likelihood of permanent damage. The team have also been part of recent ground breaking pieces of research including the potential benefits of delayed stenting in heart attack patients and the PRAMI study into preventative angioplasty. Last year the hospital announced that they would be leading their first international study into the effectiveness of a new treatment in Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI).
The live broadcast takes place on Friday 22 May at 8am. For more information, head over to http://www.europcr.com/index.php.
