Golden Jubilee response to Daily Mail article - Saturday 14 July 2012
Further to a factually inaccurate article in Saturday’s Daily Mail regarding the Health Facilities Scotland (HFS) report, we wanted to set the record straight for the benefit of our patients and staff.
We believe that we have a very good track record in providing first class care for all of our patients which is safe, effective and person centred. The cleanliness of our hospital has and always will be a top priority. It is unfortunate that the figures and statements quoted in the recent article related to the Estates Monitoring Tool and not our Cleaning Services Monitoring Tool.
The report from HFS actually highlighted that our Cleaning Services Monitoring figure has continually had green compliance with the most recent figure being 93.7% (January – March 2012). Our recent unannounced Healthcare Environment Inspectorate visit also stated that our hospital was “very clean”.
On this occasion, our Estates Monitoring Tool figure for the same period was 89.7% - 0.3% away from a green compliance rating. This figure tells us about issues around the fabric of the building but not waters systems, heating or ventilation issues that may have a direct impact on patients.
We have already proactively set in place an action plan around the reporting of estates issues and faults.
As a national resource for NHSScotland, we pride ourselves on delivering an excellent service for the people ofScotland. As this is such an important issue for our patients and staff, we have contact the Daily Mail directly to seek clarification.
