Chair blog: #Heart25, giving life, giving love
Next month, we will be celebrating 25 years of the life-changing and life-saving heart transplantation in Scotland. In this Chair Blog, I want to talk to you about how you can play your part in our #Heart25 campaign, helping us not only celebrate this event, but set a Guinness World Record and treat more patients than ever before.
The Golden Jubilee is proud to be the home of the Scottish National Advanced Heart Failure Service (SNAHFS) since it moved here in 2008. Every day our team work to find new and innovative ways to treat and improve the quality of life for the more than 45,000 patients living with heart failure in Scotland. In spite of this, and all modern technology, heart transplantation remains the only cure and final line of treatment for advanced heart failure.
Since the service began in 1991, NHSScotland has carried out more than 350 heart transplants. But we want to do more.
#Heart25 aims to not only raise awareness of the devastating and debilitating impact advanced heart failure has on thousands of people all around the country, but to encourage donations to our service to find new ways to help fight the condition.
To do this, we need your help!
We're trying to set the Guinness World Record for the "largest online photo album of people making heart shaped hand gestures". We only have a few weeks left as the album will be sent to Guinness for consideration after our #Heart25 event for patients and staff on Friday 9 December.
We have already had some incredible support for the campaign, including the stars of BBC's Still Game, Mark Cox (Tam) and Jane McCarry (Isa), celebrity chefs Nick Nairn and Michael Smith, along with professional wrestling stars, Grado, Drew Galloway, Mark Dallas and Chris Renfrew.
But to set this record we need each and everyone of you to send in your pictures! Here's how you can take part:
1) Put your hands together in the shape of a heart.
2) Get someone to take your picture.
3) "Share" your picture using #Heart25 on: Facebook or @JubileeHospital on Twitter.
4) Tag your friends and family to encourage them to take part.
5) Visit our JustGiving page or text "GJNH25 £1" to 70070 to donate to our service.
