Members of our Clinical Laboratories team are running the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run 10K to raise funds for the Golden Jubilee.

Unique within the NHS, the Golden Jubilee is the family of facilities which includes the Golden Jubilee National Hospital, Conference Hotel, Research Institute and Innovation Centre.

Jill Campbell, Biomedical Scientist, put together a team of eight colleagues not only to raise money for a good cause, but also to keep fit and be in a committed team.

On Sunday 1 October, the team of eight Bravehearts will run a gruelling 10K to raise valuable funds to support the groundbreaking research and innovation delivered by Scotland’s national hospital.

Jill commented: “The Golden Jubilee supports the fantastic innovations and world-class research work carried out at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital, as well as providing additional support and care for patients and their families from all over Scotland.”

She adds: “Our work makes a difference to so many lives and that alone inspired us as a team to take on the Great Scottish Run.  We’re looking forward to having lots of fun throughout our training and during the run itself. We are delighted that all sponsorship money raised will go directly towards supporting our patients.”

The Clinical Laboratories team within the Golden Jubilee provide a Clinical Pathology Accredited (CPA) service to the hospital, including clinical chemistry, haematology, blood transfusion and microbiology.

Collectively, the Clinical Laboratories team have over 70 years experience within hospital laboratories. Providing diagnostic care to patients 24 hours a day, the team work closely with staff to ensure quality service is provided and maintained at all times.

Although the team are based behind the scenes, their presence and expertise is a vital part of delivering safe and person-centred care to patients from all acrossScotland.

Jill Young, Chief Executive, said: “The Clinical Laboratory team maintain an exemplary service by providing diagnostic care to patients around the clock.  Jill and her colleagues are a brilliant example of living our Golden Jubilee Values of ‘effectively working together’ and ‘a can do attitude’ and to see them come together as a team to raise funds for our patients is really fantastic.

“With a vision of leading quality, research and innovation, the money raised will provide additional investment in our services, helping us to further enhance the care we provide for every one of our patients at the Golden Jubilee.

“On behalf of everyone at the Golden Jubilee, I would like to wish them the very best of luck in the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run 10K!”
