Jill Young,

Chief Executive

Jill was appointed as Chief Executive of this unique ‘flagship’ NHS National Board for Scotland in 2004. With over 30 years experience in the NHS, she has a wealth of experience in Quality and Innovation, Professional Nursing, General Management, Performance and Strategy. She thrives on challenge and has dedicated her career, no matter the role, to improving quality and safety through the redesign of services, constantly looking for, and encouraging, new and innovative ways to ensure patients receive excellent care.




Mike Higgins,Mike Higgins
Medical Director  

Mike Higgins began his medical career over 30 years ago and has predominantly worked in Anaesthesia and Cardiothoracic Intensive Care within the NHS. After his appointment as Consultant Cardiac Anaesthetist at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in 2008, Mike went on to become Clinical Director of Intensive Care and Associate Medical Director (Surgical Specialties).

Mike took up the post of Medical Director on 1 December 2012 and provides professional leadership and management in the development and provision of safe, effective, and quality medical services within the hospital.




Anne Marie CavanaghAnne Marie Cavanagh,
Nurse Director

Anne Marie Cavanagh has been nursing for almost 30 years. Her background is mainly based in cardiac surgery and thoracic surgery specialising in critical care. She has an interest in quality improvement and organisational governance as a route to enhancing patient care.

She has worked at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital since 2008 in senior roles, taking on the role of Head of Nursing in 2011. She was appointed as Interim Nurse Director in June 2014 and took up post as Nurse Director on 1 April 2015.




Safia Qureshi

Director of Quality, Innovation and People

Safia trained as a biological scientist before joining the NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme, while studying for an MSc in Healthcare Management. On completion of the scheme she joined the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) as a Programme Manager, before being appointed as Programme Director and thereafter Acting Director. Safia then joined the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) and was appointed as the Project Director of the new National Centre Project.

Safia took up post as Director of Quality, Innovation and People on 1 January 2017.




Julie CarterJulie Carter,
Director of Finance

Julie Carter is a qualified accountant and has been working within the NHS in Glasgow for the last 15 years. Before joining theNHS National Waiting Times Centre Board in 2006, she worked as the Deputy Director of Finance in North Glasgow.

Since joining the Board, Julie has been fully involved in the creation of the West of Scotland Regional Heart and Lung Centre, the development and implementation of the Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel as an NHS and public sector conference and training facility and the expansion of orthopaedic surgery at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital. Julie is responsible for delivering the Financial Strategy of the Board, she also has responsibility for eHealth and Procurement services within the organisation.



June RogersJune Rogers,
Director of Operations

June Rogers has worked in administration management in various industries, 21 years of which have been in the healthcare sector.

June leads the Operational Management Teams and the Business Services Department, managing a range of operational and administrative services. She is Executive Lead for patient activity, patient waiting times and continuous expansion of capacity throughout the hospital. As well as well as her involvement in the creation of the hospital's regional Heart and Lung programme, she is also closely involved with the continuous expansions of orthopaedic surgery and ophthalmology.
